Innovative Language Learning

Vice President of Operations, January 2010-Present.

Innovative Language makes it easy to learn with a full range of multimedia tools and services.

When I arrived in Japan, I used the company's first product,, to get my Japanese up and running, and I still study with its advanced lessons today.

I've worked on developing audio and video series and launching new products. Currently, I oversee broader product and curriculum design and accreditation considerations, while launching a personalized teaching and coaching services in over 30 languages.

Nagoya International Junior and Senior High School

English Faculty, September 2006-March 2008.

English teachers play a much broader role at NIHS than at many Japanese schools, running classrooms and homerooms, and are the key component in a vision for international citizenship that goes beyond test scores.

I worked with another teacher to overhaul student assessments in the junior high school, moving toward a task-based, "can do" model. I also implemented a learning management system and still maintain it for the school today.

During my time here, I also served on the school accreditation committee and learned to eat all kinds of Japanese food (Nagoya's a great city, and you should try the miso katsu).

Woodberry Forest School

Director of Communications and Latin Teacher, July 2004-July 2006.

Woodberry Forest is my alma mater, and the incredible faculty there inspired me to begin teaching (Latin — yes, it's definitely worth learning) and in promoting the school as part of the alumni affairs and admissions teams.

While there, I facilitated fundraising and student recruitment with coordinated electronic and print initiatives, including:

(1) a major web site redesign with associated email newsletters targeting all members of the school community; (2) a quarterly alumni magazine and annual report, strategic in a development effort managing an endowment in excess of $250,000,000; and (3) brochures targeting prospective students and their parents.

Maecenas Music Management

Co-Founder and Chief Publicist, June 2002-February 2004.
This was a twenty-month project in which I played the role of chief publicist, booking agent, manager, and producer.

The work involved negotiations with contractual and immigration lawyers and investors seasoned in the music industry, while collaborating with managers and producers associated with the Dave Matthews Band, David Gray, and Cake.
